Price is whats holding the console down. The truth is most people want a ps3, but they cant waste 600buks on it. The wii is selling becuz its nintendo and it has mario, but everybody that has a 360/ps2 would get a ps3 if it costs the same as the 360 does. |
The moment I heard of the Wii's "waggle" I wanted it. Price was not the issue. It was the potentially new gaming experience and immersive interaction possibilities that I just *had* to try out. I've wanted this kind of features ever since I heard of the SEGA Activator.
I've wanted to buy both the PS3 and the Xbox360, but in the case of the 360 I have a hard time convincing myself of shelling out that kind of money for potential RRoD issues. Plus, the 360 is well-established in the public perception as a FPS console, and for that you simply can't beat a PC.
As for the PS3, I find it hard to justify spending that money for very few games that interest me now.
Therefore, instead of plonking down over 1000$ for both consoles, I plonked down over 2000$ for a brand-new PC. Price is not the issue for me personally. About every cent I make goes into gaming some way or another, but I just don't find either console compelling enough to spend money on, not because I can't afford it, but because I think I get more than my gaming's worth with a Wii and a PC - for now.
Once those quirky games come out for both consoles (and the 360's reliability issues/gossip/whatever are quelled), I will reconsider. Katamari is already swaying me in that direction.
That's what made the PS2 so great: Games like Mr Mosquito, BeatMania, DrumMania, DDR are unique game experiences that don't translate well on a PC, but fit the living room perfectly. I don't need more Halos or Hazes when you can get much deeper/compelling games on the PC with arguably the same, if not better, graphics and a more precise control mechanism with the keyboard/mouse combo.
