Nintendo focuses their "marketing" on customers who don't already know about their products or don't already desire to purchase their products. The whole point of marketing is to reach people beyond your existing consumer base. When I was in business I never considering purchasing advertisements to attract my current clients which is of coarse common sense. Nintendo fans aren't the ones being targetted by marketing. They are the ones being targeted when Nintendo creates a new high quality game. Nintendo fans are well aware of things like review scores and the features of their hardware ect.

Having said this I see Nintendo broadening their marketing efforts to adult gamers as well which is evidenced in their marketing of Bayonetta 2. Nintendo is going through some changes as a company and are moving their gaming business more towards the hardcore and are broadening the range of products outside of gaming with their new QOL platform to deversfy this way since the opportunity for kids and average joe parents is no longer readily available in the gaming business due to smartphones tables and facebook gaming.

I would expect Nintendo's next console to be similar in power to the PS5 and Xbox "Too" and feature a traditional controller. Their next handheld will be usable as a controller similar to the wiiu controller right now but won't be required. They will make nearly all 1st party games playable on both machines and enable cloud saves and cross buy so games can be played elitely at home but also gamers can continue playing on the go or on the handheld when the tv at home is in use for other purposes. They will also continue to evolve thier online efforts and the day will come when Nintendo is able to generate billions per year with a playstation plus competitor where gamers will receive free virtual consoles games and older retail games as well as discounts on other games.

Nintendo is already back into profits and will continue to grow their profits with many of the alterations to their business model which I have outlined.
