It's not on the level of Monster Hunter and the like, but it is very popular. VGC have Demon's Souls at 350k, Dark Souls at 540k and Dark Souls 2 (which hasn't been out too long) at 360k. Not quite on the same level as some of Nintendo's bigger IP like Zelda and 3D Mario (Zelda:SS aside), but within the same ball park.
