Thank you finally somebody that makes sense I've been saying this for the longest ....success isn't how many units you sell but your profitable at the end of console cycle

No, it isn't. If the profits are big then yeah that would be succesful. But what is the point in making a console and spending a lot of money on it if the profit at the end is only going to be small?

It either has to make a BIG profit by itself, or sell enough consoles and gain enough brand awareness to greatly increase the chance of big profits from the next console.

You are wrong .....all companies are in business to make a profit at the end of the day and your way of thinking is way off...consoles does not make gaming companies profitable it is software .....do you think Microsoft or Sony are happy that they sold 80,000,000 consoles and did not start making a profit until year 5 or 6 of its release and still haven't made a profit at the end of the generation.....and too your question what's the point of making a console and at the end of the day if  it doesn't make a profit....it makes no sense ..that is why Nintendo is always gonna be around because they are a very smart company......Profits >over how many consoles we sell or coming in first or second place.....why do you think they have billions in the bank...no debt  and that is sound business sense they could care less where they finish
