Resolution can be likened to a one-way door.
Resolution won't sell games on the basis of resolution alone; they have to be games that merit playing/buying in the first place. This is obvious.
Resolution/performance, however, can kill sales. It matters to some buyers when the performance of a game they were originally interested in buying does not perform up to expectations. This includes resolution.
In short, resolution won't help games sell, but it can unquestionably hurt sales when consumer perception dictates it.
