Are you talking jr or sr?  Either way, a lot of politicians claimed to be religious to gain political support.  It's nothing too surprising.

I am only old enough to remember Clinton, W. Bush and Obama. W is Bush Jr's middle name, so a junior or Sr. is not need.

The first Bush I would call George H.W. Bush, or George Herbert Walker Bush.
