There have been several statements from developers about how UE3 has jumped their game ahead of schedule by as much as a year (The Last Remnant, for example) while using a proprietary engine would have slowed down the production schedule quite a bit. It's also a versatile engine used from everything to shooters (Gears, BioShock) to lengthy RPGs (Lost Odyssey, Last Remnant). Given the state of gaming production, it's pretty hard to view Epic as anything other than a boon to the industry. |
