The same study also found that men were more harassed (44% to 37%) however, the amount of sexual harassment was higher for women, and the amount of real world stalking as a result of online harassment was also higher with women. Doesn't really paint MP gaming as a very friendly environment, however, that's unfortunately been the case for years now.
Having heard the kinds of shit talking that happens online, I think much of the male and female harassment can be chalked up to just that, however, the examples of real world stalking are extremely troubling, and that shit, has to stop (So does SWATing). It'd be nice if people could moderate the tone of their shit talking (gender, race, sexual preference, ethnicity etc... honestly it's the lowest common denominator of shit talking, read a book, learn some more intelligent ways to antagonize), but that's like expecting a miracle.
