1) Well, the example I used was Watch_Dogs cause if u looked at like the e3 2012 (I believe) trailer vs the end game, that e3 2012 trailer looked amazing compared to the end product. And then you have Titanfall and Destiny hiding behind their "zomfg e3 awards." Its things like that which set people's expectations very high! Granted its their job to get people to want their product but its also their job to make sure that the consumer doesn't get the wrong idea

2) Well, consumer is at fault to a certain degree but again, consumers shouldnt have to do the research if the product was on par with the consumer's expectations. Look at the Nintendo games for example, there has been many Nintendo games that came out this year with various scores. You have games like MK8 that were in the 80s and Hyrule Warriors that was in the 70s but the people that bought them didn't really complain and thats cause Nintendo showed exactly what to expect without the consumers having to do research on their own...

1) I remember the threads for Watch Dogs. You could see that the game looked worse before the game released. If you still bought it even after the new trailers, aren't you to blame if you end up disappointed? If you were the owner of a business and your product got a ton of awards, wouldn't you flaunt it? Sounds like it was the E3 gaming press that hyped it up to me.

2) That just sounds lazy. People tend to shift the blame onto someone else when things go wrong. It's your hard earned money, why would anybody drop $60 on something without researching it? Sounds like a "consumer being lazy" problem rather than a "business deceived me" problem.

As far as the Nintendo games go, it sounds like people simply didn't over-hype them. A ton of people were disappointed with Skyward Sword though. Why? Because people had too high of expectations. Back then, it wasn't Nintendo's fault, just as today it isn't Ubisoft / Activisions fault.

I respect your opinion (as always Jizz) but I definitely disagree on this one

1) Well, it is true that people should have watched the trailers but watch_dogs also had many other issues that couldn't just be found on the trailers... I mean, the dissappointment for watch_dogs began with those trailers but the people that still believed that it would be a zomfg game also experienced issues. For another example, if you bought Watch_Dogs on PC which Ubisoft said that the PC was the lead platform for the game, you would have experienced major lag and a ton of hickups while playing it even on very beastly PCs... And not to mention the whole "the e3 2012 textures were in the gamefiles but they just weren't activiated" nonsense as well... And sure, if you win a lot of awards, you would show them off but if ur game isn't as good as they say it is, then maybe you should be careful with how you present them so they the consumer doesn't get freakishly over hyped

2) And sure, its lazy but lets be honest, these companies have been around for over decades and they should know by now on what gets a consumer excited and what doesn't. We are giving them our hard earned money and all we ask is for them to meet our expectations which they didn't. We trusted them to deliver us a product that meet our standards that are set by them and their "pretty" trailers/marketing. Sure, consumers are lazy but thats cause we are giving them the money and if they dont deliver, then they deserve to be bashed cause its them that set our expectations. Also, the people that complain aren't exactly your casual dad that bought a game for little timmy. The people that complain are generally gamers that most likely saw all the trailers and videos that the developers had and they probably thought it would be great but they were still dissappointed with the end result. And its quite hard for consumers to do research during pre-release cause of the review embargos and usually, the content thats avaliable in pre-release are staged

And skyward sword was dissappointing and it was Nintendo's fault for setting up the hype.. Nintendo claimed that there wouldn't be any issues with the wii motion plus and its montion sensing capabilities but there was and the whole game in general wasn't all that it was cut out to be from the trailers. I bought the game day 1 with the gold wiimote bundle and I was still dissappointed by it cause the moments when my motion control derped, it got me out of the immersion of the game... And not to mention, the game had that save bug where it would corrupt ur save file after u got to a certain point. It got fixed eventually but thats still bad

Edit: And of course people didn't over-hype them... A game becomes over-hyped when the game doesn't meet the standards of the consumers they are trying to please which wasn't the case for Nintendo games
