Gamers know what they want individually so they are very precise and vocal about it, but they are so scattered in what they want as a group that when developers try to balance satisfying everyone while maintaining a profit, it gets messy very quickly.

Nah the real problem is,the demographic publishers like ubisoft,EA and Activision try to reach is not the same demographic that is the majority of gamming communities like VGcharts,NeoGaf and /v/

If i had to describe the main demographic of this communities i would say:

18 - 35 male hardcore gamer that prefers singleplayer oriented games than multiplayer. They don't hate multiplayer though, they just see it as a secondary mode you play after finish the story. They want games to be better,to do different things and, mostly, to have a lot of content.

This is basically everything EA,Activision and ubisoft don't do these days.

They focus on multiplayer or DLC or both. They keep pushing the same game over and over and over until you start to hate that franchise that one day you loved.
