Very little analysis of why PS3 made a comeback, and why those factors don't apply to Xb one. And for all that PS3 did make a comeback, which I think is an impressive feat, it still ended up selling just over half what PS2 sold. So if you apply that sort of comeback to xb one, you will get xb one lifetime somewhere in the mid 40 million range. Not a terrible result, but certainly a disappointing result and a real waste of what xb360 achieved. But the fact of the matter is on a launch aligned basis PS3 outpaced xb 360 right from the start, so a PS3 comeback was very predictable if you bothered to analyse the sales and not just look at the total sales as a snapshot. But because most people who don't use vgc have no clue about the sales trends and patterns they come off very ignorant when they try to comment on console sales. Vgc may not be accurate week to week but it is a very useful resource for analysing long term patterns and trends.
xb one should be ahead in the USA and UK. Most rational people had placed xb one in the win column for USA and UK even if most rational people had put PS4 in the win column globally. That xb one is highly unlikely to take the lead in those countries is the story of the generation. Ps4 was always going to be more dominant in Europe and globally than PS3 so what's happening there is not news. And xb one has no prospect of reducing the gap, all it can do is reduce the rate of increase, and hold marketshare.
Can it do well enough when considered in isolation? Probably yes. Is it going to realistically compete with Ps4 on a global scale? Probably no.
