With the competition between Sony and Microsoft at an all-time high, every gamer benefits from these two companies battling one another. After all, through competition comes better products, a story as old as capitalism itself.

That depends. Is MS going to create a big line of first party games the way Sony did for the ps3. Or is the cornered animal going to lash out and buy (timed) exclusives instead.

 

Good point! XB1 has been selling WELL UNDER X360 after its debut. This article is one of the worst piece of wishful thinking text I have ever seen recently, completely devoid of genuine market analyses.

XB1, however, is released on an 80 million hungry user base (way over 25 million) and after 7 years (instead of 3). At the release of X360, the vast majority of people were still waiting for PS3. Only after the harcore initial buyers got their hands on X360 and people realised that they got a pretty even experience at a much lower price point, they started to jump off ship, especially with the advent of network effects.

Let me give you a bunch of statistics to depict you the vehemence of the situation:

XB1 vs PS4 sold in 2014 only (by 4 Oct 2014)

World:  2,913,121 vs 7,440,352 (28.1% vs 71.9%)
US : 1,665,728 vs 2,578,508 (39.2% vs 60.8%)
Europe : 701,833 vs 2,763,559 (20.3% vs 79.7%)

For comparison, despite all its disadvantages, X360 had still managed to sell more

X360: 3,660,596 vs XB1 : 2,913,121

Yes, PS4 is making XB1 look worse, but it ACTUALLY is worse! And its marketshare is decreasing even further.
