Xbox One sales are steadily outpacing the Xbox 360's nearly a year into their respective races.

Hasn't it been tracking well below the 360 during 2014?

With the competition between Sony and Microsoft at an all-time high, every gamer benefits from these two companies battling one another. After all, through competition comes better products, a story as old as capitalism itself.

That depends. Is MS going to create a big line of first party games the way Sony did for the ps3. Or is the cornered animal going to lash out and buy (timed) exclusives instead.

Yes, it has.  Which makes it strange that they use the wording they do.  Steadily outpacing?  That would imply the One has won most months when comparing it to the 360.  No, the fact is the One had a great launch followed by a sharp decline.  Coupled with the fact that more people want the PS4, and therefore the One is dead outside the US and UK, it is easy to see that some time next year the 360 will pass the One and never look back.  Personally, I'm expecting ~40M, maybe 50M, lifetime for the One.

I also don't see how the One will make a comeback when it doesn't seem to have any exclusives to push it early to mid of next year, while the PS4 does.  Of course, better performing multiplats are a plus, as well.  And if there is a price cut, Sony will answer in kind.  And MS does not want to go against a $299-$349 PS4.  And as far as SO and MCC goes, those won't really push much HW.  All signs are pointing to SO selling poor to average.  And MCC is a remastered collection that will probably push some HW, but mostly sell to those who already have a XBO for Halo 5.

Finally, I don't see the point of constantly pointing to the PS3's turn around and saying that the XBO can do it, too.  Sorry, but no it can't.  Even with the blunders of last gen, Sony had much better sales in EU and Japan than the 360 did.  This helped balance out the 360's leads in the US and the UK.  The only thing MS can hope this for is maybe a turn around in the US and UK, something I don't think will happen after seeing the continuing sales gap in those regions, even after the many moves taken by MS to combat it.  Even if they could pull it off, the PS4 would remain on its heels in both regions, while still maintaining a commanding lead everywhere else.  The Xbox brand just isn't strong enough to stage that kind of comeback.  Not with inferior PR and HW prowess this gen.
