1 in 1000??? jesus step out into the world for a second. You can just see its more common than that. I think the 1 in 10 statistic might have included men who weren't officially out of the closet. ( I can't cite a source because it was something we were told in my human sexuality class when I was in college)

 I have always heard that between 4% and 10% of the population is gay. (between 1/10 and 1/25)
