It's an excellent JRPG. It has some dungeon crawling mixed with social sim dating elements. It can be a hard game if you aren't familiar with the genre.

It's also part of the Shin Megami Tensei series, most of these games revolve around the idea of using demons to aid you in battle. Think about Pokemon but replace those cute little pets with big nasty demons.

One could say that these series started the "monster catching" mechanic since the first game dates from 1987. So yeah, Pokemon popularized an already stablished genre, it didn't invent anything. *gasp*

Is there any differences in game-mechanics between SMT, Persona and Persona Golden?

I like Fire Emblem - what are the similarities and differences between FE and Persona/SMT? I do not really understand how these two series could be merged into one game. When I have tried out SMT, it seems to me to be a lot of dialogue between short bursts of FE style fights (with ghost instead of weapons) in 21:st century settings.
