Doctor Who's current show runner is a chap called Steven Moffat. He seems to get a lot of enjoyment from fucking with people, which can result in some pretty amusing situation when you have a time travel show with absolutely no logic limitations. The thing he does most frequently is have story lines that take place in the wrong order, loop them back on themselves, and then throw it out a logic window. It's hard to give examples without spoiling the plots of some series, so just imagine a plate of pasta. That's the template he seems to use for his stories :p We called these cluster fucks a Moffat loop, usually proceeded by a gif like this:
He does sometimes over do it, and ends up with episodes that are more annoying that clever, but for the most part he's a great writer. I think his work with Sherlock is often better, but i enjoy having him run DW as well.
