Personally, I feel Destiny didn't quite deliver on all of its promises, but I still can't get enough and I've still got many more friends still playing Destiny than anything else. A lot of Destiny's perceived failure was simply due to time. They couldn't quite make the game they wanted within the amount of time they had. We've seen that from numerous leaks, etc. If you read the original Activison/Bungie contract the game was supposed to launch Fall 2013. It was almost a year late as is. They were certainly under a ton of pressure from Activision. With that said, just like Titanfall, the foundation has been laid for an epic franchise, with tons to build on.

And speaking of Titanfall, it sold 3 million copies. It was a huge success, enough to garner EA signing on to publish sequels. And like Destiny, if you read The Final Hours of Titanfall, that game was in absolute development hell for a few years, delayed a couple times, but ultimately delivered something special to build on. And like Destiny, I absolutely loved Titanfall and put in hundreds of hours, reached 10th regen, and really only stopped because of Destiny.

I think this entire "Over-Hyped" phenomenon is more a personal and individual feeling about a particular game. It didn't live up to "your" expectations or you didn't like it, therefore, it was "over-hyped."
