It probably won't have the longevity because PS2 sold 50m after PS3 launch. I just don't think PS5 will be bungled so badly and thus won't give the PS4 the legs it needs to surpass the monstrous PS2 number (sort of like how PS3's legs have been cut off so fast as opposed to PS2's long ones). It could be the fastest console or at least Sony console to hit 100m though!

PS3 has a long way to go down pricewise to be comparable to the PS2. It was down to $129 before the PS3 was even released. The PS3 is still retailing for $269.

Edit: This isn't to say that it will or won't happen. It's just easy to justify the reason the PS3 dropped so significantly in sales in comparison to the PS2 is because of the price being twice that of the PS2.

I agree but aren't PS3 components hard to get down in price?  I think that's why they haven't been lowering it (that and MS not lowering).  PS4 was designed to get down in price quickly and has common PC parts.  Unlike PS3 I can see it getting down to $99 eventually.  PS3 has another major price cut in it next year some time where it will go $150 for the 12gb, $200 for 250gb, and $250 for 500gb.  Possibly they will get everything $50 lower than that but will it matter at that point?
