It's because the r9 290x (and obviously the X2) is the only other GPU on the market that has the amt of ACE's as the PS4's modified APU, and since they were running a benchmark on GPGPU compute, you'd need another card w/ similar features. Otherwise yeah, the 290x is way way more horsepower, altogether.
