RROD and PS2 laser problems are the first two things that come to mind.
Edit: I saw this coming a long time ago. This isn't ment to compete with the Wiimote, it is ment to give developers a chance to get use to developing for a motion sensing device on a Microsoft system, and to allow Microsoft to work out any hardware bugs before a more improved version gets released as the main controller with their next system.
