It's fine that you didn't assume that (and I really don't think you did) it just could come off like you did because you said such a vague answer of "soon" and then get irritated by people assuming an actual finite date to your "soon". Because in actuality, the end of the year is still considered soon and they weren't wrong in assuming that's what you meant because you didn't specify it. In any event it really doesn't matter and I feel that JWeinCom did bring up some pretty valid points in his opinion. |
I hope you realize just how ridiculous this sounds. "Soon" is, like you said, a vague term. Because it's so vague, you cannot really tell someone that they were wrong. What you do need to do is to ask them to clarify what they mean by that. If you don't, and instead you make an assumption, you're simply putting words into someone's mouth. Any fair court in the world would find you guilty and not the person who used the vague term. That's how most people get away with things, i.e. by bending the truth.
There's no proof that he meant the end of the year no matter what you or others consider as "soon". If you are a student and your teacher tells you that the deadline for the submission of x project is soon, you ask for clarification/a specific date even if he didn't specify himself. You don't just make assumptions and then accuse him of telling you otherwise.
