Microsoft would completely kill their brand name if this hoax were true.
If they want to do this, they need to start on their new console with these kinds of controls built in. Change the marketing strategy and try to expand their consumer base instead of changing the XBox 360's userbase.
They would also have to convince developers to make their games support the new controller. Not just input support (move up to jump) but to completely alter their games to support the new userbase.
All of this assumes the controller is real, which it isn't.
There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.
