That's just not true. Even if you want to disagree about everything else you can't deny that the co-op campaign was brilliant. Hardly any games even have co-op campaigns, let alone local co-op ones, so they can't have outclassed that part of it.

So plenty of games of great cover systems and co-op now.  Borderlands, Resistance 2, and probably Sunset Overdrive absolutely destroy gears co-op.  I mean I am sure I could go on but I never found gears co-op to be that special.  Horde mode was a lot of fun, but now every game has it and many do it better.

Borderlands is a fair point, although pretty different gameplay wise. Resistance 2 isn't much newer than the original Gears, and whether it's co-op outclasses Gears is certainly not guaranteed, I don't think that it does. Sunset Overdrive isn't out yet... but, there was also the local co-op part of Gears that was awesome, Sunset won't have that so can't compete for local multi.

Local Co-Op is nice, but don't assume any series will keep it at this point.  Also I hate to be the guy to say it, but it really isn't a big deal anymore if a game doesn't have local.  A game doesn't need it to compete.
