I think that you guys are not looking at sony in the way you should. Hardware is cool, but sony is more about bussiness decisions:

First to offer a service where complete games where avaible a few months after launch
First to put console games in mobile phones
First to offer cross play in consoles
First to offer cross buy in consoles
First to offer console games in a rent service
First to let another online store sell their digital products
First to offer a digital store for their consoles that could be acessed anywhere

Those are the real innovation that sony brougth, and where they really suceeded.

Innovation== popularity

Dreamcast let PC gamers play against console gamers.  Remember Quake III?

Also, Xbox 360's Marketplace  came before PSN and allowed purchases over Xbox.com.

Some of those, I guess  are innovative but seem to be scraping the bucket.  Somebody should make one of these threads for Nintendo and Microsoft.  We'll probably find that most of the things we think they did first were copied from someone else as well unless we add "First console to..." as a prefix.

crossplay: exchange saves with handheld ports of games.

"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."
