I wonder what size demographic you represent on a market percentage basis. I'm tempted to make a poll.
It seemed like last gen, there was a fair amount of 2 console owners on VGC and a smaller percentage of 3 console owners with a mix of console plus PC players.
I'll say that the main reason to buy multiple consoles of a given generation is for the platform exclusives, followed by being able to play the best version of multiplatform games and then choosing who one wishes to play with online since not everyone is on multiple services/platforms.
I bought all three fairly early in the 7th gen and the growth of Steam made that my fourth platform, but I found myself mainly playing on one platform later in the generation since I can only play so many games per month. The other consoles were only used for exclusives by then. Not really worth it unless one plays over 20 hours a week.
I started with the PS4 with the intention of picking up a Wii U once the library filled in and a new Zelda and Metroid were released but now I'm not even sure I'll buy one at all if that happens 3-4 years into the product cycle. Not terribly interested in digging through the back catalog for more value since I already have a back catalog on the PS4 less than a year into release.
Currently, there isn't anything on the XBO that would make me buy one and re-subscribe to XBL. Gears and Halo are the only exclusive franchises left on XB that I'm interested in and I see no point in playing any multiplatform games on the XBO. Not much value in buying a $500 console and subscribing to a service for only a few games since the number of hours it would be used would be pretty minimal unless the XBO became my new TV box.
