OMG !!!
I'm amazed at the amount of ignorance in this thread.
Why clueless people try to put nonsense in peoples' heads ?
MikeB is actually right : 1080p is a buzzword that means 1080 lines of vertical resolution for progressive image, nothing more, nothing less. The article in Wikipedia even says so and you people are still arguing.
The stupidest thing is that the people arguing don't even talk about the same thing. MikeB is refering to 1080p general meaning, while those arguing constantly talk about TV or TV standards, as it's usually the display medium, for which 1080p has been invented. But that's a special case of 1080p use, and a game is not a TV. So why are people saying 1080p for a 16:9 TV must mean the same as a 1080p game ? 1080p doesn't imply 1920 horizontal resolutions, except on 16:9 entities.
There's a reason another buzzword, FullHD, exists. That's because FullHD actually means 1920x1080 among other things. But there are a few FullHD games, and I'm not even sure they are called like that.
Logic fails most people it seems.
A game with 1080 vertical resolution is a 1080p game, as each frame is progressive. People arguing that are only arguing because they have some axe to grind, as there's no point in denying that what a 1080p game is.
