I don't really care about track records, purely speaking this IS cutting edge technology and AMD has a year headstart on it (at least, who knows how long Nvidia is going to flounder around after their failed attempt).
They have every advantage to take here and, given their utter financial straights, they will do whatever they can. They recently did the exact right thing when Maxwell released and slashed prices across the board for their old GPUs to keep themselves relevent in the interim. Its not like they are utterly obtuse and incapable of sound decisions.
And at the end of the day: You DON'T want AMD to fail. Because they are literally the only thing preventing both CPUs and GPUs from turning into monopolies.
