Aye, and the salute is a very exact motion, and a civilian is never required to know it exactly, like they are in the military. It's also not a requirement for the President to salute back, either. I believe it was actually started by Reagan, to be cool, but it's done by President's now as a form of courtesy/respect. Still, I would argue every non-military President that's ever been elected has half-assed or completely fucked up the salute on a consistent basis.
