I think it's fine for people to have frank, open discussions on games, systems, and the overall trajectory of the video game industry. It's part of what makes this site, and others like it, so interesting. In arguing with others about game A or system B I've made friends and learned a lot.

The problem with "fanboyism" is that it prevents the kind of honest, open-minded debate that births new ideas and perspectives. When fans show blind loyalty to a company and blind hatred for the competition it turns debates into shouting matches, and this site into a very toxic place. Not only that, but "fanboyism" is, arguably, one of the most insidious threats to the integrity of this industry. As long as consumers show deference to a brand name over all else, hardware and software companies will continue to get away with murder.
