Sometimes a person is objectively an asshole though.

Should everyone else suffer because one person has a "special snowflake" complex?

How can a "special snowflake" make others suffer?

Because they bring down the percentage of posts worth reading compared to garbage posts and they turn discussions into crap.  There are TONS of forums that don't mind brainless flaming and childish insults.  PEOPLE CAN GO THERE.  They don't have to subject themselves to a bar they are unable to meet.

That's mainly why I visit these forums, that invisible bar that eventually forces out those who cannot figure out how to exist within the rules.  It's like natural selection for the internet.

It's not even like it's a difficult undertaking.  All you have to do is not insult people directly.  That's it.  It's as simple as pie.

Here is a breakdown for those having trouble:
"You're ignorant" -- This is an insult.  There is no context, so you're implying the person knows nothing in general.
"You're ignorant about this topic" -- Better, though still on the line.  You've given context, now you have to back it up with the logic you employeed to reach that conclusion.
"That is an ignorant statement" -- The best.  Context helps, obviously, but you are NOT attacking the person directly, only what they've written in this specific instance.

Follow that pattern of arguing and you won't be banned.  It's not about being sensitive, it's about keeping people from bogging the place down in the muck you see elsewhere.  You don't have to insult someone to argue with them.  Anyone who can't figure that out, honestly, is no great loss.
