That's my point. M rated games are now top priority. That's what they are putting most of their money behind and trying to sell to us, at least in the US. |
Read your post again. There was no indication that you were referring to lack of marketing push, but lack of games. In that respect you were wrong.
As for the marketing push, games like LBP and tearaway do get a lot of attention from sony. Same with Knack selling well due to its promotion especially through bundles and even forced bundles (japan). Non M-rated games like Wonderbook had a huge marketing push. For anyone who lived in the uk when the game launched, missing those ads was impossible. Yes the game flopped. As for Sly, yes I am serious. Are you? The game did not get any ads because the pre-orders were terrible. So terrible that they had to lower the price before the game launched. Marketing would have helped but it would have been a bad investment. The audience for such games is tiny. The fact that although it is tiny, Sony greenlit the project shows commitment to diversity. That doesn't mean that they should also spend huge amounts of money on a game that won't be anything close to a financial success. Whether you like Destiny or not, as a company Sony HAS to advertise it more than any other game considering how much it can help hardware sales. Sly won't. The fact that it exists is great for its niche audience.
Any big company with some sense will prioritize M rated games. Look at Nintendo and its many incredible games. Yet the wiiu struggles. Not because it doesn't have good (or should I say amazing) games, but because most console gamers are interested in COD/M-rated type of games and Ninty doesn't have much to offer in that respect. Sony is going with the times, while also making games for a smaller audience. The games are there, the marketing is proportinate to the games' potential success.
