I totally support your decision, but you can always get the console and not subscribe to the service. I had a 360 for most of the previous gen and i refused to pay for gold. Yeah, i dont play online much on console, i play on the PC instead where you have much better persistant online worlds.
It worth noting that PS4 presents exceptions, with FFXIV beeing outside the paywall. Of course, you still need to sub to the game to play it. Its not a double dip though.
