I think the general consensus is that this is great news. It also opens the door for PS4 launch numbers speculation in China as well. If the Xbox One is a success, it would be hard to imagine that the PS4 wouldn't be one as well. It doesn't look like Sony "needs" another big market, but it looks like they might get one anyway.

With Japan's console market looking questionable and the Wii U not pulling its weight, I think the industry as a whole is looking like it can do with another big market.

I don't agree with you because Japan only accounted for about 10% anyway and both consoles are outdoing their last gen counterparts. The Wii U is the exception but the sales of PS4 alone would still put everyone over last gens pace.
