Agreed. Melee barely outsold Double Dash and that's with a two year head start.

Mario Kart is, arguably, Nintendo's most popular franchise. Smash Bros. is similarly popular but it's not quite on the same level. Plus the 3DS version of Smash Bros. will cannabalize some sales, although not to the extent some fans believe. I imagine Smash for 3DS will function more as a companion piece to the WiiU version, rather than a replacement. Even so, with a head start and a bigger fan base, Mario Kart should top it.
