According to Sakamoto, when Samus absorbed the SA-X, she "recovered her genetic condition." After the events of Fusion, she is back to being part human, part Chozo, no parts Metroid. But her armor still maintains the appearance of the Fusion Suit.

Is that so? Never was aware of that lore point.

Neither was I. I was just looking that up earlier because I had forgotten what the Fusion Suit looked like for each 'upgrade.' I stumbled upon this info about the final upgrade, which is obtained during the final boss fight and has no official name.

I wish she stayed part Metroid, that could have led to some cool plot developments. And it would have ensured that the series title "Metroid" would always be relevant and applicable even if they decided to write Metroids out of the story for good. Samus would have been the last Metroid, a word that means "Ultimate Warrior" in the Chozo language. How badass would that be.

To be fair, we only have Sakamoto's word on this, and I've already been hoping he never touches the series again. So it could be retconned down the line, but in order for that to happen, someone would actually have to make a Metroid game that takes place after Fusion. ...........Still waiting, Nintendo.
