Well if it is 40 hours for just the main story then that would be fine. As long as there is extra stuff to do, and more importantly, the extra stuff is actually fun (so not like FF 13).

You have also to remember XV is an action RPG so the battles should  take a significantly less time, as you don't wait for gauge or a timer to perform an action. Also, older FF games are text heavy, It took to much time to read through everything.

40 hours of pure content for an aRPG is impressive..
