There's a reason the joke "I went to a fight the other night, and a hockey game broke out" is so widely heard in the US. The overriding stereotype here is that it's a poorly-regulated sport that's basically little more than an excuse for men to get in brawls.
If it weren't for the Mighty Ducks, there'd probably be Americans who didn't even know hockey existed.
