advertisement and marketing is important to every product.

if you are only measuring the success of the marketing campaign by if it beats ps4 than you are doing wrong.

I'm not judging it based only on if it beats the PS4.  However, you know damn well MS isn't happy that they spent millions on these deal, only to see the PS4 version still beating them.  They didn't just strike these deals to lose money AND have the PS4 beat them.  No, they are trying to take on Sony, but these deals aren't helping.

Which brings me to the real issue.  MS is just losing money on these deals with little to show for it.  Sure, I sure that it boosts sales slightly, however, you have to look at the fact that its really not helping.  MS is probably not making much, if anything, on the HW.  Their money is coming from SW sales.  They are bundling these games for FREE.  So, they are paying not only for exclusive advertising, but also extra for the ability to package the game for free.  A few extra units pushed isn't really going to make up for that.

i disagree they aren't helping.   oh sure,. ps4 is beating xbone but xbone is still beating 360 over the same time frame.  these sorts of deals keep xbone in the public spotlight as a viable competitor.   without them xbox would be as dead globably is it already is in japan.  i promise you they are helping even if the end result isn't "winning".

Why even bring this up when we both know that will change shortly, as the XBO is only ahead because of a great launch, but has since fallen greatly behind the 360 in monthly sales since the start of this year.  Or do you honestly think the One will match the 360's 6.8M for the '06 year.  I know I don't.  For the same time period (Jan-mid Sept) that the One has sold 2.3M, the 360, in 2006, sold 3.4M.  And the XBO has far less relevance in EU and Japan than the 360 did going forward.
