Gaming - PS3 vs 360 in 2008 - View Post

That's true...I might liken BK3 and LBP in their system selling potential, but I think that's because I'm a bit more pesimistic than you are on how BK3 will turn out. I think they both have a chance of greatness, but it's not definite at all.

What do you think of NG2's system selling abilities?

I think (assuming they are BOTH great games) BK3 has better system selling potential than LBP, simply because of it's franchise status.  It is often called the second best platformer ever (after mario).  If we said that franchise history didn't matter, the PS3 line-up would lose a lot of it's swagger.  Most of it's "advantage" over the 360's line-up is drawn from sequelitis, rather than a guarenteed superior quality of games.  LBP on the other hand, could go either way.  It might actually end up being the most hardcore-only title on the PS3 given it is based around building levels.  Regardless of it's sales (or even it's quality), I do respect Sony for trying to push the boundaries of gaming with this title.

But like you said, either or both games could flop.

As for NG2, it is also a potentially better system seller than a lot of other games on both platforms, due to it's (relative) popularity on the Xbox and the non-existence of any other game like it on next-gen platforms except NG Sigma (and if any PS3 owners loved that, they may consider a 360 purchase for NG2).  I also think it's one of the few titles that might sell well for MS in Japan, and boost hardware. Of course in Japan, the 360 selling 8,000 consoles in a week is considered a boost.
