padib didn't answer my question about which StarCraft games he played but I'll speak my mind anyway.
If you're only familiar with StarCraft II then yes the logical conclusion is that the EMP shot comes a Ghost but to a StarCraft I player like myself, the EMP Shockwave is an ability associated with.... drumroll... a Science Vessel which is what Wright has kinda claimed (he claimed to be an officer in charge of a Science Vessel).
Maybe WoW combined the Science Vessel powers for the detector ability and since my unit isn't affected by EMP because Marines don't have shield or energy to cast spells, I didn't feel anything. Perhaps, padib just felt the EMP because he's a powerful unit and Wright only use Detector on him and never attacked him.
