Chrono Trigger is THE best rpg of all time. Everyone knows that, people just pretend to like other rpg's more.
In all seriousness though, even CT is not absolute in my mind. Let me try to make a top 10 here, in no particular order...
- Chrono Trigger
- Final Fantasy IX
- Final Fantasy Tactics (the story is fucking epic. I love that thing)
- Grandia III (best battle system ever, period)
- Final Fantasy VII
- Final Fantasy XIII (HATERS GONNA HATE)
- Ni no Kuni
- The Legend of Dragoon
- Kingdom Hearts II (stupid story, but sweet God what a fun game. I hope KH3 is just as fun)
- Rogue Galaxy/FFIV/FFX (it's my list, fuck it)
I'll gladly replay all of the above any number of times. Though admittedly I haven't played that many rpgs yet...
