I'm gonna be perfectly honest, I think most people don't know exactly what they want.
"Being wowed by a game that's clearly not possible on previous gen machines.". And what the hell would that be exactly? It comes down to "insanely gorgeous" games, but many people would dismiss it as "just graphics, I want something more!"

It's been EIGHT generations folks. About 40 years of technological advancements. It comes a point where there's just no more room for INNOVATIONS or REVOLUTIONS - but why even bother so much with that, when ultimately the objective is just to have fun? If I'm having fun with Second Son, should I care that game could be done on the PS3 if the graphics were downgraded? Or should I care if Destiny is nothing we haven't seen before and the game is available on older hardware?

What's wrong with just having simple fun? Gamers are a pretty picky audience, imo.

This is actually a complaint by many people. It's many people's opinon that next-gen isn't more fun, heck, even not as fun as current-gen. There is a lot of focus on power and graphics this gen. If people wanted just plain fun, they could pick up a SNES for that and would probably not be disappointed.

There has been focus on power and graphics at every single gen. Ever. We wouldn't be looking at Full HD games today if that wasn't the case, would we?

And if people are not having fun with the games (even the cross-gen), well... I really don't know what to say. I think it's easy to please me. And I get the SNES argument, but I'm talking about having fun with brand new games, instead of revisiting old favorites =P
