The emoticon. On IGN boards it is a common practice to use an emoticon immediately after a sarcastic remark. Since the sarcasm emoticon isn't available on VGC, he had to settle with that one. 

Eh, a simple smiley doesn't mean sarcasm in my eyes. Just based on the user's posting history I can tell it wasn't sarcasm

I'm not looking at his VGchartz history though. I'm looking at his IGN history.
