Hopefully they break even on the game. Eight years of development means at least $40 Million spent in production if not more.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-01-10-where-does-my-money-go-article

If its only 40m then they only have to sell 2.22m to turn a profit since SE is the developer and the publisher.  Its gotta be more than 40m.

TBH 40m was a really conservative estimate. It's probably double that, and if the game gets a big marketing campaign, quadruple.

Well I did some digging, apparently FF13 cost 70m to make (77 with inflation)

http://vgsales.wikia.com/wiki/Most_expensive_video_games

And that had a 6 year development cycle.  If this comes out in 2015  (like I think it will) it will have a 9 year development cycle.  Now for FF13 just the development was 60m so with the 3 extra years thats 90m + the marketing that's 100m.

Now for a 100m budget they have to sell 5.6m to turn a profit.  Ofc we should minus some for the team taking time off to help FF14 development so maybe 5.25m.  I'd say that's not gonna be a problem, FF13 sold almost that much on PS3 alone.

Edit: Nvm forgot apparently a small portion of every game sold goes toward marketing costs so change the number to 4.75m
