It's pretty silly to use "Destiny" has an example of the pointlessness of the next generation. It was specifically designed to be able to run on the older generation of consoles. Just wait until games come out that fully take advantage of next generation hardware and have no ties to the past and game engines that must be compatible with past generations.

It always takes a year or so for developers to figure out and maximize the game engine possibilities on new consoles. Besides, first year/launch games are almost always rushed relatively simplistic affairs about superficial flashy elements (such as, no blurry textures, extra elements in explosions, and more particle effects) designed just to wow you with the sheer horsepower of the new console. While those things might be superficial to the actual game play, they do play a large role in immersing you in the environment and making you forget you are playing a video game.

Much ado about nothing really.
