Honestly if some of the game modes didn't have minor annoyances like only three to a strike or no private lobby for multiplayer, I would probably give it a 9 as well. Story isn't that big of a deal in these types of games, even if Destiny's was egrigious in its failings, it wasn't a deal breaker.
Still, other game modes had their failings so I felt like I really couldn't give it more than an 8. Even though I do really like the game and have been playing the hell out of it, just too many faults in the final product...
