What Sony gets and MS don't is that it is the online games that require connectivity and lots of friend circles that push most of the sales, exclusive or not.

This is why Sony backed up Destiny heavily as it will help sell more PS4, and those people's friends will also buy one to stay in the circle. This is not a brand effect but rather "network effects", which is exactly why X360 was popular in the past. Sony uses the same tactics against MS this time around.

Yes, not only the exclusives but online games like Destiny have been the true system sellers since the beginning of the 7th generation.

So, how about 80% of my Live friends are playing Destiny every day in the last week?

And why VGChartz shows the PS4 version of Destiny with only 25% more than the XOne? Considerering that PS4 install base is about 20% bigger than the XOne in the USA.

It will give XB1 a boost as well, noone is denying that but have you checked the latest US Sales numbers? Let me do the math for you...

Sep 16, 2014

PS4 162,354 (+262%) 4,271,618
XOne 105,437 (+208%) 3,371,776

The ratio overall : 4271 618 / 3371776 = 1.27  (PS4 selling 27% more)
Market share overall : XB1 : 44.1%, PS4: 55.9%

The ratio this week : 162 354 / 105 437 = 1.54  (PS4 selling 54% more)
Market share this week : XB1 : 39.4%, PS4: 60.6%

So, see for yourself. The market share has shifted more towards the PS4 this week (in line with 2014 overall, even more so). Destiny has definitely contributed to PS4 to gain more market share against XB1 (especially in US and UK).

Playstation 5 vs XBox Series Market Share Estimates

Regional Analysis  (only MS and Sony Consoles)
Europe     => XB1 : 23-24 % vs PS4 : 76-77%
N. America => XB1 :  49-52% vs PS4 : 48-51%
Global     => XB1 :  32-34% vs PS4 : 66-68%
