Self-centred article that is for the writer only, even if what he writes can relate to people. In previous generations the introduction of a console can at the progression of the technology industry (mainly storage), 4th to 5th CD, 5th to 6th DVD, 6th to 7th Blu-Ray/HD, 7th to 8th Online.
Just because he doesn't find value in it, doesn't mean it's not and helps the industry progress and grow else we will just be stuck. The car industry adapts and changes based on consumer needs and resources (fuels), if fuels were infinite, we'd still be driving cars like the 1980s when we thought we had endless resources and catalytic converters didn't exists with no computers in them.
