This is not a problem exclusive to women. The Internet is a mean and toxic place for everyone regardless of gender. Especially when what you say isn't agreed with. I also don't think anyone should take most death threats on the Internet seriously. When everyone is trying so hard to be heard over textual mediums it undoubtedly goes to hyperbole. Rape, aids murder at least after years of reading the Internet seem tame to me. After reading the threats I think she needs a thicker skin if she plans to continue speaking using the Internet.
