Man, this is the first time I am hearing about this deal. Looks like MS made a mistake trying to appease the cable companies and stick to that old model. Of course, I'm sure they didn't want to have the extra headache when cable companies inevitably push back against this new "cable" method. Sony, however, looks willing to face that. They also must be seeing the writing on the wall that people like streaming their movies and TV shows at their convenience. I read that apparently Sony is trying to come up with a ~100 channel package for their TVs and the PS4. If they can pull it off, and it is a reasonable price, I think I'll cancel my Dish service and switch to that. I'm also guessing that is going into that $2B loss for the year. And why is the loss news, anyway? I thought Sony already reported last quarter that they expect a loss this year, mostly from restructuring from the sale of PC and the spin-off of TV? Or is it larger than they originally said? |
The problem is most of the loss isn't coming from the reestructuring but from bad sales on phones... besides being the first time ever it won't pay any dividend to shareholders.
